Roundhouse Project
We're now taking orders for our timber roundhouse structures. They are made by the neurodiverse community we support and can be used for a range of activities and events such as forest schools, community festivals, arts and music events, street food vendors and weddings.

Our Roundhouse Design
They are a natural wood shelter which can be used as a more sustainable alternative to plastic-covered marquees.

Key Features
Outcomes
We want the people we support to continue to gain self-confidence by being central to the running and success of this venture. Eventually they will be taking over full running.
We also want our partners and voluntary sector collaborators to benefit by having a more sustainable structure in which to deliver their services and events.

Size
6m in diameter, 2.4m high at the eaves and approximately 3m high at the apex. Smaller or larger structures can be provided.

Materials
The bulk of the materials have been sourced locally in Sheffield, apart from the purpose-made canvas/cotton roof coverings which are being made by Attwools in Gloucester - the UK specialists in canvas products.

Design
The design is informed by our structural engineer’s calculations, and can have solid and/or canvas sides. Planning consent is not usually required as they are classed as temporary structures.

The structure does not need a central column support which is one of its attractions with its uninterrupted internal space.
The characteristic hole in the centre of the roof is left open for smoke to escape when these buildings provided homes for our ancestors. We can provide different options for the central hole:
-
Leave open
-
Infill with canvas
-
Infill with solar panel central capping structure

Price
Ranges from £8,000 - £10,000 which can be confirmed after a site visit and decision on side wall infills. Price includes delivery and erection.
Community Art Project
Our first roundhouse in the Zest garden will also serve as the central feature of a a community arts project in conjunction with Artworks Sheffield and The Hallam University Art Department. The interior walls will be covered with art pieces created by the community we support. We would love for future roundhouses to also have a creative element to their use.
